To provide early childhood education to families seeking a holistic education experience including practical life, cultural, emotional, and cognitive development to equip children with the skills necessary to thrive and prepare every child to flourish in an increasingly complex world
At Gioiosa, we believe our staff bring their best selves to work everyday, exuding the professionalism and excitement we strive toward as a center. Since they do, we think it's important to pay them well, make sure they are healthy, and that they have access to benefits that make work more enjoyable.
We adore our team and are happy they are here, but sometimes they move on to other things. We also have a lot of expansion to do! If you are interested in working at Gioiosa, please check our open positions on Indeed.
Admin and Non-Classroom Based Staff
Teresa is the Program Director at Gioiosa, backed by a psychology degree and several years of diverse experience in the childcare field, beginning in 2017. She is a seasoned entrepreneur who previously founded and operated an in-home center, proving she could successfully manage a staff of three and a cohort of ten children without losing her sense of humor. Teresa specializes in high-level oversight and the kind of organizational calm that can only be earned after years of being outnumbered by toddlers.
Brandy is the Administrative Director and our resident expert on how to make things actually work. With a Master’s from Missouri State and a twelve-year career spanning instructional design and program management, she has spent nearly a decade directing complex systems. She transitioned from the classroom to management years ago, meaning she knows what the teachers need and how to organize it. She specializes in change management, a vital skill for an environment where the only constant is the unexpected.
Riley joins the Gioiosa team with a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from KU and a specialized ability to remain calm in a room full of percussion instruments. Her background includes a deep dive into developmental music therapy and years of volunteering in special needs ministries as a respite buddy. Between her clinical internship and a lifetime of nannying, Riley has seen every possible childhood "performance." As a float teacher, she moves between classrooms, bringing a mix of therapeutic expertise and a strategic ability to find the "off" switch when things get a bit too fortissimo.
Emma is a pro at keeping things moving and keeping them clean. Backed by a national health and safety certification and years of food service experience, she brings a "health inspector" level of precision to Gioiosa. Being the oldest of four siblings gave her a lifetime of childcare experience long before she entered a classroom. A nature lover and skater, Emma spends her free time outdoors—likely to get some space from her four cats, who currently outnumber her at home.
Infant and Wobbler Team
As our Infant Lead, Colby brings a level of perspective that can only come from working with both the very young and the very old. She’s been a fixture in the childcare world since 2017, punctuated by a two-year nannying stint and a detour into senior care. She has earned her CDA, cementing her status as a professional caregiver. Colby has been with the Gioiosa team since 2023, where she focuses her "seen-it-all" attitude on making sure the infants are thriving (and the chaos is contained).
Jazmine joins the Gioiosa team with a background that blends childcare experience with the iron-clad patience required for customer service. After recently completing her high school studies online, she is using her time in the classroom as a real-world laboratory for her future career in early childhood development. She spent a year as a daycare teaching assistant before joining us, and she’s already well-versed in the art of being "motivated and responsible" in the face of toddler-induced chaos.
Gelina Taylor spends her days caring for our youngest learners—ages 12 weeks to 10 months—and her evenings tackling coursework as she works toward her high school diploma online. When she's finished with high school, she wants to pursue a career in math, possibly teaching high school, with the ultimate goal of teaching college students. She’s long been the go-to babysitter in her family, which turns out to be great training for life in an infant room: equal parts patience, intuition, and a sense of humor about the unpredictable. Gelina brings genuine passion to early childcare, and it shows in the way she cares for every baby entrusted to her.
Early Preschool Team
Von Plumley is our Lead Teacher in Early Preschool and has been in early childhood education since 2015 - long enough to know that toddlers are both delightful and relentless. She’s worked with children ages one to five in roles ranging from teacher to assistant director, and she holds an AA in Early Childhood Education. Von brings a steady mix of patience, experience, and just enough humor to survive the daily mysteries of early preschool life. She likes to focus on social and emotional development with her kiddos, which we can all appreciate. We’re grateful to have her guiding our early learners… and occasionally decoding their artwork. She lives in Kansas City with her two dogs and she enjoys taking them on walks or just being in nature with them. She also likes to explore Kansas City and try new places around the city.
Tina has spent the last ten years perfecting the art of stepping back. A veteran of Montessori spaces, she is committed to the idea that children are remarkably independent when given the right tools and a thoughtfully prepared room. She finds a quiet, wry satisfaction in watching a child internalize boundaries to unlock more advanced materials. When she isn’t fostering social and academic autonomy at Gioiosa, Tina is likely at home applying those same skills to floral arrangement or her four Yorkies—though the Yorkies are arguably less interested in Montessori order than her students are.
Aly Alvarado brought over four years of early childhood classroom experience - plus an impressively eclectic résumé that includes teaching art at Got Art Gallery, coaching Happy Feet soccer, supporting youth in crisis as a shelter advocate, and working as a behavioral interventionist with FosterAdopt Connect, to Gioiosa. Basically, if it involves kids or community, Aly has probably done it. She’s completed collegiate coursework in early childhood education and has a clear passion for volunteer work and outreach. Aly shows up for children and families with dedication, creativity, and the kind of calm flexibility that only comes from seeing… a lot. We’re glad she’s on our team. When she's not here, she likes to hang out with her four cats, craft, and garden.
Ella joins the Gioiosa team as a seasoned veteran of the toddler world. Having previously served as a Lead Toddler Teacher, she is well-acquainted with the unique logic and high-intensity negotiations that define the two-year-old demographic. Her goal? Directing toddler-sized mayhem into something resembling a routine.
Preschool Team
Penny joined Gioiosa with a half-decade of childcare experience, ranging from one-on-one nannying to the beautiful chaos of a full center. She has a deep appreciation for the "discovery" phase of childhood, mostly because it keeps her on her toes. A native of Salina, Penny spends her off-hours with her mom and sisters or getting lost in a book. If she’s not at home cooking something elaborate, she’s probably hiking—likely enjoying the fact that, unlike her students, trees don't usually require constant supervision.
Rye has worked with children since 2015, having nannied, coached, and taught. She graduated from UMKC in 2021 with a BLA, minoring in Fine Art. Teaching is definitely a passion of hers, but she has many more! She writes and performs original poetry, writes and performs original songs on her ukulele, plays in a billiards league, plays volleyball, video games, and skateboards. She's also a photographer and an artist—in every sense of the word! She loves getting to work with children every day, enjoying the difference they make in her life as much as she strives to make a difference in theirs.
Float and Break Teachers
Marisa is an Infant Float Teacher at Gioiosa. She transitioned from Little Lambs Montessori School where she cultivated her understanding of Montessori principles and the vital stages of early child development. Marisa has a strong foundation in the wellness development of young children, supported by a Certificate of Completion in Personal Wellness and Human Nature. Her favorite part of working at Gioiosa is experiencing the humor and compassion of her coworkers. Marisa comes from a large, close-knit family she loves and lives for dearly. Outside of her role at Gioiosa, she enjoys learning new things, staying physically active, and spending quality time with her family.
When she isn’t busy studying the complexities of the human mind at the University of Missouri, Alaina is at Gioiosa putting those theories to the test. As the oldest of three, she’s been an unpaid consultant in child development and little-human diplomacy for years. Alaina joined the team to be a role model for the next generation—or perhaps just to see if her psychology textbooks actually hold up against a determined toddler. She’ll be popping into classrooms during her school breaks to apply her expertise in the field.
Carmen is 21 and was born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas. She has worked with children most of her life in home and center settings. She worked in a Montessori school for several years and enjoys watching children grow while supporting them in learning independence. She is able to adapt and attend to every child or situation and enjoys learning and growing with the kids as she works with them. She believes that age is just a number and everyone is greater than it! She is not only a teacher of children but a student of them as well!
Lucy Coones is our part-time break coverage teacher and a dependable presence in the classroom. She has worked in childcare centers since 2024, along with volunteer work in soup kitchens, proof that she’s no stranger to patience, flexibility, or organized chaos. Lucy holds a high school diploma and approaches each day with a steady attitude and a willingness to jump in wherever she’s needed. Our classrooms (and our teachers’ sanity) are better for it.
Atziri is a Turner High School graduate who is currently splitting her time between Concorde College’s Medical Assistant program and Gioiosa. She treats the classroom like a clinical environment, bringing an extra layer of health-conscious oversight to the team. She’s here to gain hands-on experience with our most unpredictable kiddos, proving that if you can handle a room full of preschoolers, a medical career will be a walk in the park.
Dog Volunteers
Momma is a German shorthaired pointer mix! She’s a sweet, friendly pup with a gentle heart and is an absolute angel. Momma loves cuddles, belly rubs, and getting all the pets and attention she can. Being at work with her favorite human and seeing the kids every day is her happy place!
Coco is a French Bulldog and by far the most energetic of our dog friends. She loves nothing more than to zoom around the kids at play while they chase her, giggling her name.
